How to Use Mock Tests for JEE Main Preparation

06 Oct 2026 · TestMint Team

Most JEE Main aspirants take mock tests. Far fewer use them well. The difference shows up in how a test is attempted, and even more in what happens afterwards.

A sample week in the middle phase

  • Monday and Wednesday: a 30-question sectional test on the subject you are weakest in
  • Friday: a chapter test on whatever you studied that week
  • Sunday: a full three-hour paper, followed by a long review session

Mistakes that waste a mock

The first is attempting in a relaxed way, with pauses and checking answers online. The second is looking only at the score. A score tells you where you are; it does not tell you why. The third is reviewing only wrong answers and ignoring the right ones you guessed.

Three numbers to track

After every paper note your score, your accuracy (correct divided by attempted) and your blanks. Rising score with falling accuracy means guessing is carrying you. Flat score with many blanks points to topic gaps, which sends you to the chapter pages for Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics.
