A memory section, so revise like one
The marks in General Awareness come from breadth. Reading a topic once does very little; revising a smaller set of facts several times does a great deal. Mock tests act as the retrieval practice that makes facts stick.
Areas to cover
- Static GK: capitals, currencies, books and authors, awards and organisations
- Polity, history and geography of India
- General science drawn from school-level physics, chemistry and biology
- Economy basics and current affairs for the period around the exam
Efficient practice
Use short topic quizzes, such as our static GK practice sets, and keep a running list of facts you got wrong. Because current affairs change continually, rely on recent material from reliable sources rather than a static list. If you are short on time, attempt General Awareness first in the paper: questions you know take seconds and you can spend the saved time elsewhere. The approach is explained in our guide to preparing General Awareness without burnout.
