General Awareness Preparation Without Burnout

06 Oct 2026 · TestMint Team

General awareness feels endless, so candidates either skip it or panic-study it. A small daily routine beats both.

A daily 20-minute slot

Spend ten minutes on one static topic and ten on recent news. Over a month you will cover a surprising amount without feeling overwhelmed.

Static topics: a category a week

Choose one category at a time, for example capitals and currencies, or books and authors, and learn 20 to 30 facts. Quiz yourself with static GK sets the next day.

Current affairs: summarise weekly

Instead of reading everything, read a reliable weekly summary and write five lines. Revisit the notes before your weekly quiz.

Keep a miss log

Write every fact you got wrong in a list. Review it weekly. Repeated facts are the ones that stay.

Know your exam's weightage

Different exams use general awareness differently. See how it appears in SSC CGL, railway exams and banking exams, and then scale your effort to match. For the question-by-question approach, see how to prepare static GK.
