How to Prepare Static GK: A Category-by-Category Method
06 Oct 2026 · TestMint Team
Static GK is a large collection of small facts. The way to learn it is to cut it into categories and revise often.
List your categories
- State capitals and world capitals
- Currencies of countries
- Books and authors
- National parks, dances and monuments
- Awards, honours and sports trophies
- Abbreviations and headquarters
One category at a time
Pick one category for a few days, learn 20 to 30 items and quiz yourself. Learning related facts together helps memory, such as all the dance forms of one region.
Use memory hooks
Link a new fact to something you know: a rhyme, an image or a story. A hook helps recall under pressure.
Quiz and revisit
Quiz the next day and again after a week, as outlined in spaced repetition. Our static GK practice tests provide ready-made quizzes.
Fit it into your plan
Do not let static GK take over your preparation. A daily slot of 15 to 20 minutes is usually enough, as described in general awareness without burnout. See how it features in SSC CGL General Awareness.
