How to Use Mock Tests for MAT Preparation

06 Oct 2026 · TestMint Team

MAT has a lot of questions in a fixed time, so the winners are the candidates who stay near their time ceiling on every question. Mock tests are how you build that discipline.

The one-minute ceiling

Pick a time ceiling per question, roughly a minute, and mark every question in the mock that crosses it. After the test, add up the minutes spent on those questions. In most cases a handful of questions will have consumed a fifth of the paper.

Rotate through the sections

Do not practise only your strong section. In one week, take one sectional test each from Quantitative, Logical Reasoning and Language, and finish with a Data Analysis set.

Count errors by cause

For every wrong answer, mark one of: concept, calculation, misread or time pressure. In MAT, time-pressure and misreading errors are common and are fixed by rhythm, not more study. You can check the MAT pattern overview to confirm the structure you are practising for.

Build up to full mocks

Start full mocks once the sections feel familiar, and take one a week. The overall plan is in the MAT strategy guide, and tests are listed on the MAT hub.
