MAT Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

MAT is conducted several times a year by the All India Management Association. Its structure rewards broad coverage.

The paper at a glance

The Management Aptitude Test has had five sections covering language comprehension, reasoning, quantitative skills, data analysis and general awareness-type content, with 150 multiple-choice questions in the paper. Section names and the treatment of some sections have varied across sessions.

Marking

Correct answers carry positive marks and incorrect ones are penalised. Exact marks, timing and any changes should be confirmed on the official AIMA website for your session.

Practising for the pattern

  • Take full-length mocks that match the question count
  • Track time per section to avoid overspending on one
  • Mix in some current affairs revision if the section is part of your session

The weekly plan in the MAT strategy guide puts these ideas into a schedule. Tests are listed on the MAT mock test hub.

Note: this is a general summary, not an official source. Check the official MAT notification for current details.
