Reading is the syllabus
Passages are drawn from contemporary writing in fiction, non-fiction and opinion, followed by questions on meaning, inference, tone and vocabulary in context. Candidates do better when they read widely rather than only study grammar.
What to practise
- Timed passage sets with five or more questions each
- Inference and author-intent questions
- Vocabulary in context, using the surrounding sentences as clues
Test strategy
CLAT papers are time-pressed, so practise reading a passage in about three minutes and answering in another three or four. Review each wrong inference by locating the exact lines that support the right answer. A longer view of how the sections combine is in the CLAT preparation strategy.
