Apply the principle, not your opinion
The key habit is to answer according to the principle stated in the passage, even when you disagree with it or know the actual law differently. Candidates lose marks when real-world legal knowledge overrides the passage.
Steps for each question
- Identify the rule or principle in the passage
- Match the facts to each element of the rule
- Choose the option that follows from the rule, not from fairness
Practising
Do two or three passage sets a day for a couple of weeks and write the principle in your own words before reading the options. In mocks, flag questions with two close options and review why the correct one follows more directly. A sound approach to reviewing mistakes is in our review guide.
