How to Solve Logical Reasoning Puzzles Step by Step
06 Oct 2026 · TestMint Team
Puzzles feel hard because they hold many conditions at once. A method that offloads the thinking to paper makes them manageable.
Step 1: draw the skeleton
Draw the structure the puzzle describes, such as a row of seats, a circle or a table of days. Label every position so you can place items quickly.
Step 2: place the certain items first
Go through the conditions and place those that fix an item exactly, such as "A sits at the left end". Then use conditions that link two items to narrow the rest.
Step 3: branch only when forced
If a condition gives two possibilities, note both but keep going; later conditions will often remove one. Do not guess a branch and carry on without marking it.
Step 4: verify
Check the completed arrangement against every condition before answering questions. A single missed condition makes later answers wrong.
Know when to skip
If after two minutes you have placed fewer than three items, move on and return later. Practise estimating difficulty early; it is covered in our banking reasoning page.
