A sample question from this test
A boat covers some distance downstream at 22 km/h and returns upstream at 16 km/h. What is the speed of the stream (in km/h)?
- 4
- 6
- 8
- 3
Answer: D. 3. Speed of the stream = (down − up) ÷ 2 = (22 − 16) ÷ 2 = 3 km/h.
How to approach this test
Downstream speed is boat plus stream and upstream is boat minus stream; the boat speed is half the sum of the two and the stream speed half their difference.
