A sample question from this test
A boat goes 15 km downstream in 1 hour and 11 km upstream in 1 hour. What is the speed of the boat in still water (in km/h)?
- 20
- 16
- 13
- 26
Answer: C. 13. Downstream speed = 15 km/h and upstream speed = 11 km/h. Speed in still water = (down + up) ÷ 2 = (15 + 11) ÷ 2 = 13 km/h.
How to approach this test
Downstream speed is boat plus stream and upstream is boat minus stream; the boat speed is half the sum of the two and the stream speed half their difference.
This set leans hard, with multi-step questions, so treat it as a stretch: attempt the questions you can see a method for first and return to the rest. At 25 questions in 40 minutes, you have about 96 seconds per question on average. After you submit, review every wrong or guessed answer using the explanations.
