GATE Mock Test Preparation Strategy

GATE rewards depth and calm under time pressure. Mock tests train both, provided each one is reviewed properly.

Subject tests during preparation

After each major subject in your branch, take a test on it. Use core subject tests for your branch and Engineering Mathematics tests to keep calculation skills sharp.

Secure the easy marks

Include General Aptitude in each full paper. It is a fixed-weight section and one of the easiest to secure.

Full three-hour papers

In the last two to three months, take full papers under real conditions and review them thoroughly. Check how your accuracy varies across MCQ, multiple-select and numerical-answer questions, as each format needs a different approach.

Review notes

Keep a notebook of formulas and standard results that cost you marks. Spend the time before each new paper revising it. For a longer walk-through see how to use mock tests for GATE.
