Your First Mock Test: What to Expect and What to Do Next
06 Oct 2026 · TestMint Team
Your first mock test is a measurement, not a verdict. Almost everyone scores lower than they hoped, and that is exactly why it is worth taking early.
What the first test shows
It shows three things you cannot learn from books: how fast you naturally work, which sections you avoid, and how you behave when time is short. These are far more useful than the total score.
What to record
- Score and accuracy for each section
- The questions you did not reach and the ones you skipped
- Time you spent on your three slowest questions
Plan the next two weeks
Pick the two weakest areas, schedule three short practice sessions in each, and then retake a similar test. Improvement from one mock to the next, even a small one, is the signal that your routine is working. A free test is a perfect place to start; see free mock tests.
Do not do this
Do not retake the same paper immediately, because memory will inflate your score. Do not compare yourself with toppers' scores either. For a bigger picture, read how many mock tests you should take and how to set a target score.
