A sample question from this test
A boat covers some distance downstream at 16 km/h and returns upstream at 12 km/h. What is the speed of the stream (in km/h)?
- 7
- 9
- 2
- 5
Answer: C. 2. Speed of the stream = (down − up) ÷ 2 = (16 − 12) ÷ 2 = 2 km/h.
How to approach this test
Downstream speed is boat plus stream and upstream is boat minus stream; the boat speed is half the sum of the two and the stream speed half their difference.
