Where the marks come from
Arithmetic and algebra provide the most predictable marks, followed by number system and geometry, with modern maths such as permutations and probability appearing in smaller numbers. Questions that need an unusual insight are best left to the end.
Priorities for practice
- Arithmetic: percentages, ratio, time, speed and distance, time and work, mixtures
- Algebra: equations, inequalities, functions, logarithms and sequences
- Geometry and mensuration, number system and modern maths
Handling type-in answers
Non-MCQ questions have no options for estimation or back-solving, so they reward clean working. Practise writing short, structured solutions, and keep your arithmetic grounded with fundamentals such as percentage drills. In mocks, aim to clear the easy and medium questions first, then return to the rest. The full sectional plan is in the CAT preparation strategy page.
