UPSC Prelims General Studies Mock Tests

General Studies Paper I is a test of breadth, judgement and elimination. Mock tests train the judgement part, which no amount of reading alone can give you.

What makes Prelims GS different

Prelims questions rarely ask for a bare fact. They ask you to choose the correct combination of statements, spot the one exception, or identify which of several options is least wrong. Success comes from reading carefully, eliminating confidently and knowing when to leave a question blank.

Subject areas to cover

  • History: ancient, medieval, modern and art and culture
  • Polity and governance, including the Constitution and institutions
  • Geography of India and the world, along with environment and ecology
  • Indian economy and general science with current developments

Building a mock-test routine

Alternate between subject-wise tests during preparation and full-length papers closer to the exam. After each test, classify wrong answers as unknown, half-known or misread. Half-known questions are where negative marking hurts most, and learning to guess selectively there is a skill covered in our negative marking guide. Combine this with the CSAT-oriented practice on the UPSC CSAT page.

For the overall plan see the UPSC mock-test preparation strategy and the UPSC mock test hub.
