How to Build a Question Bank for a Test Series
06 Oct 2026 · TestMint Team
A well-organised question bank lets you assemble a full test in an afternoon. A poorly organised one makes every test a new project.
Tag every question
At minimum record subject, topic, difficulty and the exam it is meant for. Later you can build a test by asking for, say, ten medium-difficulty percentage questions.
Review before it enters the bank
Have a second person check the question, the options and the answer key. Errors found after students attempt the test cost trust.
Write explanations at creation time
Adding the explanation later rarely happens. Writing it while the logic is fresh also catches mistakes in the question itself. See how to write good MCQ explanations.
Avoid repeats across tests
Track which questions you have used in which tests, and avoid near-duplicates within a series. Students notice repetition quickly.
Plan for growth
Add questions regularly after each exam cycle, retiring ones that students found ambiguous. If you already have questions in spreadsheets, TestMint supports importing them; read about it on the monetize your question bank page and the institute page. The step after the bank is assembling a series, covered in building an online test series.
